RTIs/STIs
Reproductive tract infections (RTIs) are infections that occur in the reproductive tract of both men and women, and caused by bacteria, viruses or protozoa. The infection affects the genital tract and can affect female or male reproductive organs. RTIs can be present without producing any symptoms. It includes all infections of the reproductive tract, whether transmitted or not.
Sexually Transmitted Infection is infection transmitted from one partner to the other during sexual contact. The common STIs, gonorrhea, syphilis, Chlamydia and HIV, are relatively easy to contract, and need to be medically treated.
Both STIs and RTIs can lead to serious complications including infertility, chronic pain and even death and some of them may even be transmitted to a newborn.
